What do you do when you introduce a new character in your screenplay? A few essential facts will give you a head start and capture your character with a good first impression.
Name and Age
Yes, the first one is a freebie.
Physical Description
In a way, so is the second one. Make sure you’re describing traits that will individualize your character. Skinny, pretty and blonde hair will not suffice.
Temperament
This portion is the most distinct. A detailed yet succinct description of your character’s temperament is how you bring a voice to the words. Again, don’t go overboard with this, just pick something unique and rest will follow.
When it’s done, you’ll have something like this:
CARRIE. 28. Playwright. Wholesome with understated beauty; tends to rambles when getting close to the truth.
That’s it. Bring your character to life with the three component parts so no characters sound alike.
Popularity: 5% [?]
That’s clever. At least for supporting characters who don’t get much fleshed out, it’ll help make them seem three-dimensional. Good tip.
