If you’re someone who finds Grey’s Anatomy to be too depressing nowadays, you’re in for a treat.  ‘Holidaze’ is a rarity for the show in that it is happy.  Overwhelmingly happy and positive.

The Holiday Spirit

Yes, all the patients this week survives.  I’m not just talking about the flu, but major once-in-a-lifetime surgeries.  All in all, it is a good day for the patients and the doctors.  It’s almost disorienting to see so much happiness splashed within a Grey’s Anatomy episode, but it is an appropriate time for such an occasion.

The couples of the show really find the time to celebrate even when drama leaks through every screen.  Cristina and Owen share some very passionate (and very hot) kissing scenes, and all the while Teddy is being let down left and right.  The scene where Owen tells Teddy he’s in love with Cristina is the most cut-throat and brutal scene of the episode.  Meanwhile, Lexie and Mark have to take in a daughter that more than a little annoying.  I’m not a big fan of this storyline, but it is a new obstacle for the couple.

But, you see, even with so much problems, the episode is happy.  Very, very happy.

The Father Figure

Ah, daddy issues.  Seems like the perfect vessel for every story doesn’t it?  Personally, Miranda’s interactions with her father didn’t touch me on an emotional level, but anytime Miranda has to make her famous speeches gives me something to look forward to.  Considering all the progress Meredith has made with both the Chief and her own father, the episode really takes two steps back as far as that goes.  Unfortunately, I don’t pity the Chief.  I just want him to sober the hell up so the hospital doesn’t sink to the ground.  C’mon Chief, you can do it.

On a sidenote, how amazing is Sara Ramirez singing Silent Night?

There’s a lot of happiness in ‘Holidaze’, and all in all it is a much needed breather amidst all the soap opera drama on Grey’s Anatomy.  Does it fulfill my every wish?  No.  Does make me happy to see half the cast sing Christmas carols?  Yes.
