Desperate Housewives 6×09 ‘Would I Think of Suicide?’

‘Would I Think of Suicide?’ is heavier on the drama than humor.  For veteran Desperate Housewives fans, this episode may feel rather bleak.  It also signals the beginning of the show’s annual mid-season cliffhanger, where melodrama reigns supreme.

Double Suicide

The implication of not one, but two suicide attempts in one episode is definitely a sign of how the episode weighs on the drama/comedy scale.  This is not entirely a bad thing.  In fact, in my mind this is one of the season’s best so far in defining the problem and then progressively raising the stakes.

With Katherine, it’s been a long time coming.  Truly, the character feels like a new person this season, one that is deranged and emotionally unstable.  It makes Katherine’s stay on the show questionable, but then again, that’s also what makes the storyline so compelling.

The same goes for the Bowens.  As the entire family contemplates leaving the Wisteria Lane, all things also point to the danger of staying.  Considering the season is not even half over, it feels rather early to be having such talk.  Every episode, the family’s anonymity is put further into jeopardy, a tactic that intensifies in gripping my attention as the weeks go by.

15 Years of Rage

Yes, if anyone’s keeping count, it has been 15 years since Susan and Karl separated.  This is also why it’s refreshing to see Susan be the bigger person and move on from her rage towards Karl.  While Bree and Karl as a couple still needs a few more test runs, the new emotional territory the episode presents is a great way to set up new dynamics.

This is just as well, because Mike’s darker persona once again makes an appearance.  Considering how the man was introduced, it’s almost nostalgic to see his other side again.

Lynette and Gabrielle

Given that it’s a character-driven show, perhaps the most emotionally harrowing storyline is the ongoing conflict between the Scavos and the Solises.  As of now, it’s become an all out war, one that puts many characters in jeopardy.  Different viewers may side differently on this one, but seeing the exhausted, pregnant Lynette pack up her things in a utility closet kind of seals the deal on the victim aspect of things.  Yes, babies trump just about anything Housewives 6×09 ‘Would I Think of Suicide?’ reviewon television.

‘Would I Think of Suicide?’ is jam packed to say the least.  Given the awesome promo for next week, it’s clear Desperate Housewives is determined to end on a high note before its break.  This episode is a nice lead-up to the big finale.
