A sizable improvement over last week’s episode, Desperate Housewives is back to its usual tricks with ‘You Gotta Get A Gimmick’.
The Sex, The Tears and The Strip Club
This episodes is perhaps one of the more traditional Desperate Housewives episode of the season. It features a scandalous storyline with Susan stripping in front of gawking men. It features a heartbreaking story with Lynette’s continued woes over her lost child. It also features a comedic and very much ironic story with Juanita’s ignorance of her own heritage.
All in all, this episode has all the right ingredients to make the episode sing. However…
The Mystery
Given the transitional stages of all the characters on Wisteria Lane, ‘You Gotta Get A Gimmick’ is a necessary segway before the main course. Still, one can’t ignore the fact that Angie and the Bolen family mystery is very much on hiatus this week. Therefore, the tension the show exudes is gone, at least for the time being.
Overall
And therein lies the problem with Desperate Housewives. It starts off strong and ends strong, but the middle is mired by distractions and slow pacing. You have to wait to get to the good stuff, but ‘You Gotta Get A Gimmick’ is an episode you can pass on without much gripe.
